Library supporters claim a new 0.22 mil property tax levy for library operations is not a tax increase. Hmm . . .
Yet, this new levy will cost the owner of a $250,000 home an extra $550 over the life of this new millage. Including the extra cost of this new levy, this typical home owner would pay over $2200 for library services during for the duration of the new millage.
This new levy represents a 33% increase in taxes collected for library operating expenses. Does any unit of government deserve a 33% raise? Voters in the Brighton Library District will decide if a 33% tax increase is reasonable and appropriate.
Citizens in Brighton City, Green Oak Township, as well as parts of Brighton Township and Genoa Township will be impacted by this November 3, 2015 vote.
